REVIEW: Hair and Makeup Addiction Essential Face Kit

It feels great to be blogging again! I am sorry I took a long break…I have been so busy with school and family. However, I feel refreshed and motivated to start blogging again!
To begin, I received Hair and Makeup Addiction’s new Essential Face Kit to review. It's no secret how much I LOVE the eye brushes. I knew the face kit would be just as amazing! By far, Hair and Makeup Addiction face brushes are the softest brushes I have ever used. After using and washing them for about a month now, the bristles have not shed and have remained their shaped. They are just as soft as when I first received them.

Pictorial & FOTD: Mac Illustrated Face Kit by Rebecca Moses

Face, eyes, and lips using Mac Illustrated Face Kit! I did not have time to take a full face shot using my camera or my phone so I took a screen shot of the video I posted on Instagram earlier today. (I was running late to an appointment!) I also made a pictorial for the look! It is super basic and easy to do!

I wanted to post my thoughts of each component in the kit now that I tried all of them. Let's begin with the eye shadows. "Orb" applies extremely on my skin. Orb is good to diffuse color and harsh lines on the crease. "All That Glitters" shows up sheer, so the best way to use this color is with a damp brush or to spray Fix+ on the brush for better pigmentation. I thought "Smoked Sepia" and "Showstopper" were a disappointment. The colors look and swatched beautifully but I had a hard time working with both colors. "Smoked Sepia" was difficult to blend and I didn't like the formula. I was expecting a chestnut brown and I didn't get that. I thought "Showstopper" would be very dark. I love dark matte browns. Again, the pigmentation is not the greatest. If I were to do a smokey eye, I would have a hard time with it, going back to the color multiple, multiple times to achieve the desired look.

Haul & Review: MAC Illustrated Face Kit by Rebecca Moses

Mac's Illustrated Face Kit ...I could not pass up! =D Come on...a kit with one blush, four eye shadows, two lipsticks, and a dual ended brush. And the fact that they are brown and neutral shades...what's not to love? I think that is a great price for the amount of items in a kit. This is also convenient for travel, it is about the same size as the palm of my hand. You have almost everything, which is what I love most about this kit. This is a special edition, Nordstrom's Beauty Exclusive, on sale for $49.50 ($101 value).

Kit includes:
Blush: Melba
I should have bought this blush a long time ago. Its so beautiful! Frosty blushes always catches my eye so I do not own any matte blushes. This will be my first. I think I will buy this separately.

Eye shadows: Orb, All That Glitters, Smoked Sepia, Showstopper
All of the eye shadows pair so well together, if you use all four or just two. My favorite is All That Glitters. I can't believe  I do not own this eye shadow. I will most definitely buy this color separately.

Lipsticks: Ravishing & Myth
Ravishing is one of my top favorite lipsticks. Its a perfect coral that is not too bright or too sheer. Myth does not look good on me so I won't be using this color too much.

Dual ended brush: 275 SE & 316 SE
Honestly, I could care less about this brush. I cannot achieve a well blended look with just a 275 angled brush. The 316 lip brush is appropriate. If you are going to include a brush for convenience, why not have one for blush?

I would say that is the only down size of this kit. Typically, I don't like using one brush because it mixes all of the colors. If I could choose just one brush to create a look, it would be a 217. But I would have preferred a travel size black or dark brown eyeliner. I think most people (whether they will use this for regular wear or for travel), they will be using/packing other brushes.

Overall, this is truly a great product. I hope Mac will come out with more face kits in the future!

Review & Pictorial: Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Eye Shadow Sticks

Sorry it has been a while...I've been in a makeup rut for the past two weeks and this heat wave in California makes me not want to to deal with any makeup!

One of my favorite colors to wear is turquoise! When I saw Rimmel London's Scandal Eyes Eye Shadow Stick at the drugstore, I just had to pick it up! They remind me of NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils & Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils. I purchased two colors: Tempting Turquoise and Bulletproof Beige. You can use this as an eye shadow base or for all over color. For the pictorial, I used Tempting Turquoise. I think the eye shadow sticks are better off as bases, not to wear alone because it tends to crease. Also, be careful not to apply too much otherwise it will clump up. I think I will go ahead and buy more! Although, I wish they had a greater variety of colors. So, below is my Tempting Turquoise inspired pictorial! Enjoy!

Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Hypercolor Brow and Hair Powder

Anastasia Beverly Hills has recently released three new colors for the Hypercolor Brow and Hair Powder line: Red-Licious, Lola Lilac, and Royal. They can be applied on the brows and/or hair for a temporary color, without the use of dyes and bleach. The Hypercolor Powders are quite fun! I love the ease of use and temporary gratification of color. To apply on the brows, use an angled brush. On the hair, rub the powder on the tips or streak of hair!

I used Red-Licious on myself! So pretty! The powders are very pigmented, so you can make the color as light or bright as you want. I recommend using gloves with this because it can get really messy! The color washes off easily. My only drawbacks are, the color rubs off the clothes and skin (neck & shoulders). Although, I heard to use hairspray to seal in the powder, I still found it to rub off. It can be very messy and powders flying all over the place, but I guess that is what you expect for a powder right? However, the end results are definitely worth it!

**UPDATE** Please thoroughly wash out the color on your hair!! Some color left over transferred on to my clothes and pillows (even though I thought I got all of the color out). The Hypercolor Powders disappeared after a wash in the washing machine, so it did not stain.

New Lipstick Pick-ups!

It has been a while since I purchased a new lipsticks so I thought I would treat myself! =) I chose Mac's "Up The Amp" and from their All About Orange Collection, "Tangerine Dream."

Tangerine Dream:

I love orange-y, coral colors so I just had to buy something from the All About Orange Collection. Sadly, my local Mac counter only had two shades left. "Tangerine Dream" is a shade of orange I don't have so I had to pick it up! I applies very sheer. I do need to mute out my lips with concealer/foundation before applying the color because my lips are too dark. In addition, pick up a matching lip gloss, that won't erase the beautiful color.

Up The Amp:

I always gravitate toward nudes, pinks, and corals. I wanted a wild color...and "Up The Amp" is certainly the most wildest color I own lol. It applies so creamy and comfortable on the lips. I can't wait to wear this!

Review: Glamour Doll Eyes

Hello Beauties,

I was recently asked to do a review of Glamour Doll Eyes (GDE) eye shadow pigments. I chose six colors from their entire collection: Martini Olive, Jailhouse Jumpsuit, Undead, Chocoholic, Bare Naked, and Lover's Lane. They had so many colors I wanted to try, ranging from vibrant to neutrals, so it was hard to only pick 6!  I was impressed with the quality, blendability, and texture of the pigments. I love how GDE has both matte and shimmery pigments. I'm so used to seeing shimmery pigments, so it is nice to see a line that carried some matte finishes.

Visit Glamour Doll Eyes Here

They were so kind to give you all a coupon! Use coupon code: missmaes to receive 15% off a $15 purchase! The coupon is good until October 2, 2013

Swatches:
They are taken in natural lighting. I wanted to showcase the colors, so I had to swipe the colors more than once.

Urban Decay Vice Palette "Chaos" Pictorial

Hey beauties,

One of my followers requested a pictorial for one of my older looks I posted a while ago on Instagram, so I tried my best to re-create the look! I used the color "Chaos" from UD's Vice Palette. I used Chaos alone because it is such a beautiful blue, I wanted to highlight the color!

Step 1: Apply eye primer all over the lid and brow bone. I use UD's Eye Primer Potion. With a Mac 217 brush, blend "Laced" on to the crease.

Step 2: Pack "Chaos" on to the lid using UD's Shadow brush. Apply the color below the crease because we will blend the color.

Step 3: Take the 217 brush, and diffuse "Chaos," following the natural fold of the eye. Although "Chaos" is a gorgeous color, I find it hard to work with. You will need to re-apply the color on the lid because it tends to disappear as you blend it out to the crease.

Step 4: Line the lower lash line with a Sigma E30 brush.

Step 5: Line the waterline with UD 24/7 Glide-On eye pencil "Perversion." With a Mac 227 brush, apply "Anonymous" all over the brow bone. Then highlight the inner tear duct with "Echo Beach."

Step 6: Apply mascara and your favorite lashes! I use Benefit's They're Real mascara and Select Lash S1 & S47 lashes stacked.

Best of all, I love that it is buildable, so you can make it as intense and bright as you want, or something light and neutral. Scroll down to see the products used and pictorial!

Review: Makeup Addiction "Special Eyes" Kit

Hello Beauties!

So excited to write my very first post! I was asked to review Makeup Addiction's "Special Eyes" Kit. I have used these brushes for over a week now...and I can honestly say I am in love! This is a must have for your brush collection and this is great especially if you are just starting out.

Makeup Addiction is based off the UK. Their brushes are vegan friendly, made with synthetic taklon fibers. They are eco friendly as well, with the handle of the brushes composed of bamboo. I found all 6 brushes to have multiple purposes and the blend-ability impressive. The softness of the bristles are remarkable! They all felt so gentle and comfortable on the eye lid. This kit sells for $39 shipped to the US. I think that is a deal for 6 great, quality brushes. I will discuss each brush in greater detail below.

You can purchase at: www.hairandmakeupaddiction.co.uk

The Queen: This is my favorite brush out of the entire kit. I actually do not have a brush like this in my collection. I absolutely love it for blending concealer underneath the eyes! I also love that bristles are so gentle. You want to be careful with that area because the skin is a lot more sensitive. This can also be used for contouring the nose and cheek bones, applying concealer around the nose and covering up blemishes

The Blender: Most of the names of the brushes are pretty explanatory...super easy right?! The Blender is best for applying color to the crease. I thought it did an excellent job diffusing the color. You can also use this to contour the nose, if you have a smaller nose and The Queen was too large.

The Shader: The Shader is best used for packing eyeshadow onto the lid. The size of the bristles fit perfectly on the entire lid. This can be used to apply eyeprimer all over the lid and browbone, if you do not like to use your fingers.

The Highlighter: I like to use this brush for highlighting the brow bone and inner tear duct. This can also be used to apply a darker eye shadow color to the outer corner, achieving a cat-eye look.

The Detailer: This is great for smudging eyeshadow on the lower lash line and adding color to the inner tear duct. I love The Detailer than all my other pencil brushes I have from Mac and Sigma because of the softness. Again, you want to be careful with the under eye area and I found this brush so comfortable and delicate. It can be used to create a cut crease and creating more definition on the outer v.

The Liner: This can be used to apply gel eyeliner. It creates an easy and even line along the lash line. You can also use the brush to fill in the eyebrow.

I hope you all found this helpful! Please visit Hair and Makeup Addiction for more information!
Thank you for reading!
